Microcurrent therapy; wave of the future?
نویسنده
چکیده
In our six years of experience with muscular electrical nerve stimulation (MENS), we have not had any negative results. MENS has produced consistent, predictable results on a variety of patients. The results were initially excellent and have improved with our familiarization with the instrumentation. We would encourage clinicians who have not utilized MENS to do so. Optimal results with MENS will require a combination of direct, indirect, and regional techniques.

Design and Construction of Thermally Combined Microcurrent Electrical Therapy Device as Preliminary Study for Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatment
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease that destructs the cartilage within joints. Even though RA cannot be cured, its progress can be slowed and its symptoms can be managed by applying microcurrent and thermal therapy to enhance the healing process of the joints. This research aims to combine two different therapeutic modalities: Microcurrent Electrical Therapy (MET) and t...

Electrotherapy is a form of rehabilitative treatment where electrical stimulation is used as a form of therapy. Examples of electrotherapy date back to 2500 BC with stone carvings in tombs in ancient Egypt showing patients being treated with catfish capable of producing an electrical charge. Microcurrent therapy, also called “microcurrent electrical neuromuscular stimulation” (MENS) is one of s...
متن کاملBioelectricity and microcurrent therapy for tissue healing – a narrative review
Background: Microcurrent therapy (MCT) uses electric currents similar to those produced by the body during tissue healing. It may be a particularly beneficial where endogenous healing has failed. Aim: To review evidence regarding microcurrent in tissue healing and the application of MCT. Methods: All peer-reviewed studies concerning microcurrent and MCT were sought, and representative literatur...
متن کاملThe Efficacy of Microcurrent Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation as Compared to Placebo in Reducing Pain Caused by Diabetic Neuropathy: A Systematic Review
Background: Pain caused by diabetic neuropathy is a common complication in diabetic patients. Microcurrent therapy is currently being used as an alternative treatment option for painful diabetic neuropathy, yet little research has been done to date on the efficacy of this treatment option in randomized controlled trials as compared to placebo. This systematic review was performed because there ...
متن کاملWound healing treatment by high frequency ultrasound, microcurrent, and combined therapy modifies the immune response in rats
BACKGROUND Therapeutic high-frequency ultrasound, microcurrent, and a combination of the two have been used as potential interventions in the soft tissue healing process, but little is known about their effect on the immune system. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effects of therapeutic high frequency ultrasound, microcurrent, and the combined therapy of the two on the size of the wound area, perito...
